Topic Name: Wear my ring to the interview?
Message Name: NO ONE SHOULD BE MARRIED?
Date Posted: 02/12/2002
In Reply To: I'm a senior in college and recently became engaged. The ring is very large and attracts attention which might be the problem. I'm interviewing with a high-power strategic consulting firm and was wondering if I shouldn't even wear the ring during the interview? Both my fiance and I wouldn't mind if I took it off for the interviews, but should I even worry about this? It's always weird talking about personal matters during interviews and I could only see how it would conjure up negative or neutral responses, nothing positive. Any insights?
Message: this is for 2isgood- all the answers you're getting from the board seem to refelct only the fact that you are engaged. no one is reacting to your original dilemma0 which is that the ring is a big one. according to all the replies so far, no one should be engaged or married because it insinuates a lack of commitment or time. regarding the size of your ring, you need to think of the type of job you're going for. i was engaged, now married, and my ring is about 3.25 carats. i don't think it ever became an issue. my ring isn't 10 carats, and you never mention the size. in my opinion, here in nyc, it makes zero difference and can show you have the inclination and desire to make something with your life even though you can afford to stay home and look after your housekeeper. get out there, wear the ring, and be confident that you are worth getting a job and providing value to a company because of YOUR worth, not the worth of your diamond. BY THE WAY, what does everone on the board think- after you get the job, you suddenly met a rich guy and became engaged over night? if office women will be jealous, then they will be either before OR sfter you get the job.
