Sorry about "thread-jacking" this, but I am a curious fellow. I still have no clue as to what I want to do, but it sounds like consulting is not for me. I definitely don't want to work 60-90 hr work weeks.
Maybe something with a little less pay. I would sacrifice a few bucks for less hours and more time off - that's for sure...what other professions would you suggest for an Econ major?
Thanks again to everyone who has responded!

If you want a 9-5 job, consulting, management, law, advertising, medicine, and any sort of financial services do not qualify. For me as a consultant, 50 hour weeks are god-sends and 70-80 is more usual.
Consider working in a corporate environment. The pay will be half to a third of what you'd make as a consultant and you won't gain skills nearly as rapidly as in consulting, but if you really can't stand long hours, going into consulting or banking would be hell for you.
I actually would rather work till 10PM every night as a consultant than in an entry-level corporate environment b/c consulting is a lot more fun. I rarely do the same thing two days in a row and most of my time is spent doing work that matters.
