In Reply To: I am currently at a Big 5 that shall remain unnamed, but I assume many of its employees may be looking to move on. I currently perform International Tax consulting services. I want to switch a bit and move to management or strategy consulting, ideally at a small firm with an economics focus. What is the best strategy to break into this field? Is it realistic given the market conditions? Which firms are hiring now? Are there any headhunters that specialize in placing people into this field? Are there headhunters focusing specifically on employees of my current employer? Thanks!
Message: What level are you? There are no headhuinters who "specialize" in AA per se, but some are more connected with the economics community than others. However, headhunters tend to deal with a set of salary ranges ... you will need to talk with different people, if you are 150+ (e.g. heavy mgr, SM or principal levels) vs more junior. Also, your options, the firms which will be interested, and the jobs they would have availeble will vary quite a bit depending on whether you have any grad degree vs none at present. Given that you are looking in econ, I would suggest that you look at "Job Openings for Economists," published by the AEA. You should be able to find it on the web by searching through google. You will see various econ boutiques and related search firms listed there. You may also wish to look at glocapsearch.com ... that is one of the few search firms devoted to i-banking, econ, finance, VC & consulting.
