Do what's natural to you and you'll convey who you are. If you are comfortable it will show. If you've designed a strategy, it too will show.

I think it is okay to look away following these rules:
1. Don't look away too quickly after making eye contact.
2. Looking away shows that you are thinking about a question and not just firing of a memorized answer; reserve it for the tougher questions.
3. When you look away you should start your reply in about two seconds and look back in about four.
4. When you look away repeatedly don't focus on any object in particular.
5. When you are making eye contact don't switch from one to the other of the interviewer's eyes. It doesn't matter which you focus on but don't switch.
6. Some interviewer's use staring as a tool to see how cool you are under pressure. Ignore this.
Good luck and see you later!
