In Reply To: I will be graduating in May 2003 from Wharton and my GPA is a 3.5. I have excellent extracurricular activies, internships at two ibanks, and have started my own business as well. I've decided I dont want to do ibanking and was wondering if I have a shot at the consulting firms - not the Big 3 but firms like monitor or mercer and Big 5 firms like deloitte consulting, anderson etc. I understand that the industry is basically in a hiring freeze right now but hopefully this will change - I will be starting fulltime work in the summer of 2003. Please let me what you think my chances are and give me any advice from your experiences. I have excellent interviewing skills and believe I will ace those cases :)
Message: I know more than a few people who had less than a 3.6 GPA that work in consulting. Of course, it was less selective in the late 90's due to supply and demand. Focus on networking with people in the firms you like. People will utimately hire you b/c they like you and want to work with you. Often a question in interviews are "if I am travelling and working 10 hrs a day, would I still want to go to dinner/drinks with this person?"
