In Reply To: Wharton BS or Wharton MBA? Obviously MBA you're fine, but with Wharton BA, you're right in the most competitive pack of ugrads vying for a position. The economy doesn't help either. You probably have a better shot at an ibank - as it is less sensitive to the downturn than consulting(although still sensitive). Also, try to raise that gpa - in this economy, anything will help.
Message: 3.5 at Wharton is OK; you can get an interview at any company if the rest of your resume is strong. I had a 3.6 when I graduated from Wharton and wound up at M/B/B. I had interviews with all the top firms in both i-banking and consulting. As soon as you get the interview, people forget your GPA--the decision is based on how well you perform in the interview. However, if you can get the GPA up to a 3.545 you can round to 3.6, which would be helpful. My impression is that top tier firms are turning around. The feeling is that we hit bottom on September 12. Now that we're entering a new budget cycle in 2002, clients are more willing to commit to larger projects with the potential to boost their bottom line by year-end. The big corporations (who have more financial flexibility) have been buying consulting services all along while the smaller potential clients are still generally hurting. Watch corporate earnings--as earnings rise, consulting revenues (and employment) will too.
