Hi!
I have a dent in my credit history. Known as an R9 (written-off balance), for a small amount ($150), which was paid off as soon as I discovered its existence (more than a year ago). How big a problem is this? Do firms use credit history to pre-screen candidates and if so do they only look at current problems and bankruptcies? I would really appreciate any advice any of the folks here could give. Thanks a bunch.

If firms use credit hostory at all, it is usually in a post-interview situation, often post-offer ("passing" is a stated condition of the offer.)
So, at least with the firms I know of, it would not be a factor in pre-screening you out.
Usually, you will know when a credit check is being undertaken, as most firms will ask you to sign a waiver / authorization ... so, unless you've been asked to do so, it probably has not been an issue for you so far.

Also, can't you ask the credit reporting agencies to incorporate your comments when there is an inaccuracy / questionable line item?
