I recently graduated and accepted a position with a huge, huge internet company doing work on the accounting and auditing side for the company. Overall, I've been there now for 4 weeks and I don't think that my work is challenging enough. However, the stock options they gave me is enormous that I don't want to refuse the job. Salary is not that great, but reasonable. Co-workers are fun and great. The company really looks after their employees.
At the same time, I was given an offer for a consulting position for a e-commerce software company who's stock has been soaring lately as well. I expect this position to be much more challenging and more career objective fulfilling. The pay is more than the internet company's offer, but the stock option is not as attractive.
I guess the bottom line, it's a personal decision. But I want to hear what others think. Should I sell myself out and work to become a millionaire with the internet company or should I join the software company doing consulting? I realize that consulting is a very respectable job and requires long hours and traveling. But I am contemplating on what I should do.
I was thinking about telling the software company that I will be starting 5 months from now and then see both companies' stock performance. If the internet company is doing well, I would stay with them. If not, then jump ship and go with consulting. Any thoughts on this????
