In Reply To: Why doesn't your country help other countries establish democracies and give them money? Why should it be up to the USA?
Message: My country actually does, and a lot more tha the US if we take into account its size and resources. I am not saying the US should be the only country to contribute to world development (and that goes far beyong just "giving" money). It's just that US would certainly be the country that would probably benefit the most from it: more comercial partners, less illegal immigrants (if people felt good at home, why would they migrate to the US in the forst place?), more peace in the world (less US "expensive" interventions). It's just that it takes a longer term view on policies and strategies to understand that. Not a short term, short-sighted and emotional reaction. Again, I am not saying "poor terrorist, evil America": I think terrorists should be VERY severely punished - I just don't think that bombings(what are you gonna bomb in Afghanistan anyway? dust???) and economic embargos decided by the US, NATO or whatever occidental democracies only feed more anger against the US and the occidental countries. Suppose a foreign country, that happens to be the superpower of this century, decides to bomb your country and impose an economic embargo, making tens of thousands of already poor men, women and children die from starvation and lack of medicine: terrorists and (for most of them) non-terrorists. Do you think you are doing a good job in preventing non-terrorists to become terrorists? No, you are just giving terrorists a very fertile ground to cultivate more terrorists. If you react with fire, blood and death - put yourself in the other side's shoes (the non-terrorists that unfortunately have to live in the same country as the terrorists, and are considered as so just because of their nationality/religion) - what would you think? I love America, and I think it is a country that has achieved a lot of good thinks and has great ideals. But I am continuously deceived by the decadence of these same ideals among americans: wake-up guys: in a not so distant future, most of you will be speaking spanish and WASPs will become a big minority. You are already much more international than you think you are, and therefore should stop looking only at your own belly.
