In Reply To: Hello, I just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there like me. I am a 24 year old person, laid off once from an IT firm. I ended up with a better company, but now there are rumors of the same thing happening again. I was always a top student, went to a good school, and did everything right. However, with all the stress and stuff, I feel like I'm 24 going on 45. I look at people who are in college, and they look so much younger than me. (I was only in college a few years ago, for God's sake!) Its amazing what I have gone thru in the working world at my age. I think it is unique for our generation for us to face so much stress so soon. In past recessions, it seemed like it was the old people who got screwed. Now, I have heard of many friends, acquaintences who have been laid off, or face a lay off. Is there anyone out there who feels like this, or has a similar story?
Message: I??m 24 and feel like I??m having a mid-life crisis. I started a content management company in college... we were on the road to pretty decent profitability. I ended up selling it to a client of mine for pure stock in his B2B ASP... big mistake. Needless to say, I'm still working for the buyer at a dramatically discounted salary and the stock is worth.... well, it isn't liquid. The company actually has pretty good traction, but the management is really screwed up. I've been w/ them for 2.5 years and have yet to get a review or a raise. I feel like my career is crumbling in my hands. The sad thing is that I've been trying to get out since March and can't even find a decent job to go to... my experience seems too good to be true for a lot of employers. The job market doesn't help either. I guess I will just grit my teeth and wait for better times. I can't just "take a break" because I have NO SAVINGS. I'm living hand to mouth due to my highly discounted salary. Right now I would love to get into a larger company like GE?? a company who expects you to outperform the pack and rewards you for it.
