I am a psychiatrist in NYC with a strong interest in transitioning to consulting work at one of the more select firms in NYC, such as McKinsey. I have some private experience doing management consulting type of work that includes counseling distressed workers during job cutbacks, fitness for work evals, etc. I have experience in substance abuse field and have some EAP contacts, etc. in the NYC area. Also, I am a member of the Academy of Organizational and Occupational Psychiatrists (AOOP) which is made up of M.D. psychiatrists, as oppossed to Industrial Psychologists, who do some variations of strategy, human resources and organizational consulting work.
With this said, I would appreciate any feedback from consulting firm associates, principals or partners about possibilities of doing work for these firms, such as McK or others in the NYC area. Importantly, how do I get my foot in the door and WHO do I approach at these firms SPECIFICALLY.
Please visit the AOOP website to learn more about what I do http://www.aoop.org
Respond here, or you may e-mail me at gilstep2@pol.net

Perhaps my focus is off. Does anyone know of strategic staffing type consulting firms in the NYC area that might have a need for someone with my experiences?
