Hi,
I am also in the same boat :) I doubt whether experience in technology/operations consulting alone will get you into the top 10 mba schools, however successful your projects were. (if u can't get into the top 10, u can't easily get into the top strat consulting firms and so on)
At the moment my gameplan is similar to what 'consultant' suggested. Learn skills in finance/marketing/business and do projects where u can apply them AND get recognition for it. (you have to invest effort into this). Probably u can't move into strat consulting within your firm itself, so the best is to switch jobs into something more into strat consulting using your gained experience. Probably then u can work towards your mba.
One final word. If your boss is more into techy stuff, u are better off switching to another job where your boss is more into strategy, business or marketing. You can learn and progress faster towards your aims. This is my $.02 opinion, and is arguable, but I think I benefited from this.
Good luck

Curious about what you meant when you said... "I doubt you can get into the top 10 MBA programs doing technology/operations consulting." ?? Are you serious? Not only do droves of people go into top schools having done this sort of work, but many people leave MBA programs to do this sort of work. Maybe I misunderstood you?
