I have been out of school for almost three years and have been a paralegal at a top 5 law firm (couldn't get an analyst position right out of school) in both the New York and Silicon Valley offices. I am no stranger to a high stress work atmosphere and have done the 100 hour weeks enough to know what they are all about. I would like to break into management consulting (e-commerce) and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of former paralegals being hired at consulting firms. Would I have to start at the bottom in terms of work and pay? Would my experience be valued (I work in corporate finance and M&A)? I am not looking to work at McKinsey (in fact, I would prefer a smaller firm, even a boutique.) Would I have any advantage over undergraduates who are interviewing and whose grades are better than mine (3.3 from a top 20 school)? Somebody help me!
