it's obvious you aren't a consulting insider, because i know of several firms (most notably my own!) that made offers to their interns when they left this month. the market is not that bad for everyone. sure, some firms are weak, but there are also several firms out selling new consulting business and providing solutions to companies seeking to take advantage of the slow-down to define profitable growth strategies for the future. the slowdown *has* affected the *type* of work sold, most notably the sharp decline in IT spending. in particular, m&a scouting has increased substantially the past few months. however, firms that put all their eggs in the IT basket are not doing well.
