Hello, "I need advice." Yes, you probably are doing something wrong. Sending out resumes blindly won't get very far. You need to network, especially for competitive industries such as the ones in which you are interested.
Networking is so important because you develop relationships with people who can help you in future, and whom you can also help. The main reason for networking is that although we see many opportunities posted online, in the papers, etc, they comprise only 15-20%. How do you think the other 75-80% are filled? That's right - through networking. Managers with open positions begin with internal recruiting, then go to their friends in the industry, and so on. A manager is far more likely to respond to you if he or she has a referral from someone they know and respect.
Talking to people in the industries and firms in which you are interested in the best way to go. To do that, you must network, with anybody and everybody - you never know who might know someone, who might know someone else, etc, etc. I'm sure you understand what I'm saying.
