I agree with ExeRecruiter - you need to answer questions is a different order.
First, do you plan on going back to graduate school in the next 5 years? If yes, then definitely take the GMAT and study like the devil for it. If you go into i-banking or consulting, you will be telling people your score until you retire.
If you don't plan to use the GMAT, do not take it just to beef up your resume - it is just too much work to do well and people will want to know when you plan to use it.
Will it help you get a job by showing your analytical skills? Possibly, but they will look at your work experience just as much. You will want to emphasize your quantitative work experience.

Here's my take:
If you're applying for a consulting or banking position from a non-targeted school, a high GMAT on your resume (coupled with a good GPA) will most likely get you the interview.
For all other jobs, it's useless, and will probably look stupid to recruiters on the resume.
