In Reply To: Tous le monde, I'm writing CFA level one this year. I know that this is more applicable to the banking industry (Which I'm really not all that interested in.) Is the following positioning reasonable? "I may not have done that well as an undergrad, but I really enjoy quantitative problem solving; that's why I enrolled in the CFA. I'm also pretty adept at using quantitative techniques to solve problems otherwise I would not have been able to pass this rigorous exam." -or- Would i be better off taking some more undergraduate courses part time in the summer and getting A's in them? I assume doing both would be the best bet. Another option that is available to me is doing an academic masters in Financial Economics at LSE or University of Toronto or in management at Queens University (in Kingston, ON)or Penn State. All of these degrees are one year. I have to admit that this is my least favourite option as it would require taking a year out from working. How much credibility do academic masters like these have with strategy firms? Mike
Message: (oh boy, practice for my own letter) Try something like this in your own words: I am comfortably proficient with quantitative techniques. I will complete my CFA-Level 1 this year. Educationally I plan to take some additional courses at my university to strengthen some of my undergraduate studies. For graduate level studies I am looking into programs at the London School of Economics and at Penn State, as well as several other graduate-level institutions. I have not settled yet on a date to begin my graduate work, and would prefer to gain some additional experience in industry. ----- How's that? Get rid of the negative tone, reduce the focus on weakness, highlight the proactive bolstering of areas that you recognize need work. Hint at future plans, and leave room for adjustments determined my further experience. This may or may not work, and hopefully others will add valid input or editing. One more thing, change your name, there are getting to be way too many Mikes around here. :) signed, another Mike (just kidding about the name change)
