Hi,
I currently work in an IT consulting firm and the work is boring beyond belief. Mediocrity pervades not only the firm, but the clients I work for. Most of the executives I work for are not particularly smart or innovative - the few clever ones are disillusioned, or they have left the company. My firm does strat work as well, but the strat people I have met in the company are fairly underwhelming.
The quandary I face is that I want to get out of the IT consulting business and get into the tech strat business, but I'm not sure how exactly to go about doing that. When I graduated from college a couple of years back I tried to get interviews with Mckinsey and Bain at my campus, but because my GPA was garbage compared to my competition, and given the fact that I was applying with an unconventional set of majors, I couldn't even get an interview.
Any suggestions on what I can do? I don't want to be stuck in the IT business any longer, but there seems to be no out (unless I go back to school, or get a job renting surfboards).

You sound like a smart guy, take the GMAT and head beack to school.
