I was not suggesting that you make anything up. That is a sure fire way to not get hired and unethical to boot.
The fact is that a consulting firm reviews thousands (truly) for very few spots (50-100 per year per firm worldwide). As a result, they have wide pool to choose from and can (and do)use marks as a bar to eliminate candidates. In fact, many candidates with high marks do not get interviews. Good marks combined with extra curricular achievements and/or work experience (not as important - people with good marks and leadership in extra curriculars get jobs all the time)and/or honours and awards will get you in the door.
That said, you are best to send your resume along with an honest letter about explaining why bad marks (lack of priorities) and what you have DONE (not expplain your personality type or drive to do a good job but provide actual evidence) that shows that you have the work ethic, brains and other skills necessary for this job. If you don't try, you'll never know but at the same time be realistic that even if you don't think marks matter they do to many firms.
Good luck.
