In Reply To: I've just finished a piece on CM, and got the sales patter from Interwoven, Vignette, Broadvision and a couple of others. The gist is that for pure CM (think publishing web content) Interwoven is the leading solution, and it has the big plus of being XML/XSL based, which is important if your looking at cross channel content (WAP, PDA etc...). The problem is that Interwoven doesn't incorporate personalisation or site usage statistics, and so is limited if your looking at something so support a transactional site. Vignette is good, but JSP/ASP based, so your content is tied in a DB - apparantly not as easy to transfer across platforms as XML. (find someone techy to answer this question!) Oh, I didn't like the Interwoven sales attitude, or the push I got from their consultants...Be warned that setting up Teamsite is NOT as easy as it seems (lots of time needed to create XSL templates and things). You'll need people with tech skills to get it up and running. I'd look at Vignette or Broadvision (depending on the sort of thing you want to do), but even better, wait for Microsoft to commoditize CM with the .NET stuff coming through. Medium term CM / workflow is dead, personalisation is the thing to focus on - and again Microsoft will have a say in this. Whatever, ask a lot of questions.
Message: I would agree with the last comment about waiting for .NET enviroment (look towards MS development partners for this in the mid-term, the MS CMS as a complete product is some way off and does not offer full service, lacking workflow support) developments and CM personalisation is the way forward. XML makes content available to more devices (WAP cell phones, handhelds, digital TV....you name it). Be extremely careful with certain companies' "attitude problem" - there are a lot of egos out there and projects are failing because of unrealistic expectations. But hell I would say that. I'm the Strategy Manager of a European Content Management Software company...
