You forgot the gap between McKinsey and the rest.
I work for one of its immediate rivals, and we are always happy to beat them to a job. They're a little like IBM in the pre-PC days - buyers in client organisations who choose McK for a project cannot be faulted even if the project screws up as they chose the "best". |

McK is a top firm and can compete with the other top 3 or 4 on the list. If there is any gap at all, it's a small, but positive one in their favor.
