In Reply To: HG: I agree w/ Luis...How do you get into the development side of things? I am currently a senior at Wharton (undergrad division) and, like Luis, have experience in the Network Admin/Help Desk type of work. I too would like to get into e-commerce consulting. But what do you mean by development? How does one get into it coming straight from college? What types of classes, etc.? Thanks!
Message: Reread what Hg wrote above, "just view development...", as he explained it very well. I think where you and others (like me) were getting confused or unclear is a conceptual thing. You might be looking at the nuts and bolts of building, now just elevate your perspective a few notches to get a bigger picture. Before you can start coding, someone had to define what to code. Before you can build a system, someone had to define the system, what it will do, what it should provide, what the inputs and outputs are, and so on. Print out what Hg wrote, take the printout to a park or outside someplace away from your workspace, then reread it. Look around and see if you can find something to apply what was written. How would you _develop_ an e-commerce plan and system for your school cafeteria for instance. How would you present it to the cafeteria managers and the school administration. How would you implement it. Did this help any? Or did I just dig the hole a little deeper.
