In Reply To: I have recently come to believe that the term Human Resources implies expendability. I'm sure many of you agree, especially those of you who've been laid off recently. I asked myself why it changed from "Personnel" to "HR" in almost all companies and came to the conclusion that "Resources," human o otherwise, are more expendable than "Personnel." Anyone else think so?
Message: But so are jobs. It's a partnership between two parties: YOU, the vendor, who rents your labor to the customer; THE COMPANY, your customer, who buys your product (which is your labor). If the customer is bad customer (doesn't pay on time, doesn't pay the price you set, makes delivery of your product difficult, etc.), then you drop him and find another customer. He is expendible. If the customer doesn't need your product anymore, or can find a better one at a better price, then he can drop you and find another vendor. You are both expendible to each, but still prefer not to end the vendor/customer relationship if you can help it.
