In Reply To: I just wanted to know whether CGEY is as prestigious as other big 5s as far as getting into a top mba school or going for another job.
Message: Getting into b-school is largely dependent on YOU, not the firm you work for. however, schools do use employers as a pre-screen. I am at a top 5 school, and the most represented big5's are Accenture, Deloitte, and PWC. In terms of the big 5, the ranking of b-school opportunity is something like this: Deloitte Consulting: Very selective analysts program, the firm supports its analysts going back to b-school and provides all kinds of application assistance. The acceptance rates to the top schools are so high it is obscene. Accenture Strat: very selective analyst recruiting, good business experience. PWC: no difference, between the next three. CGEY KPMG: I don't even think they actively recruit b-school students anymore. At least not at top schools. Accenture: If you are one of the many thousands of AC code monkeys, you CAN get into a top school, but the odds are against you. You will have to work hard to distinguish yourself. For instance, given ACs size, there aren't that many more AC consultants than Deloitte consultants, even though DC is less than half the size of AC. While b-schools won't admit they have quotas, there is one. For instance, a school may say that no more than 25% of the class can be consultants. That 25% has to be divided by all major consulting firms (McK down to boutiques). Now, the problem some of the big 5 have, particularly AC, is that there are SO MANY people applying at any one time. You will be one of probably 500 AC consultants apply. If you go to CGEY, make sure your get a VARIETY of experiences and show some leadership in the firm (lead recruiting, community service, etc). If you have good scores, you should have a decent shot, but definitely expect some dings.
