I'll tell you something. Here in my school's undergrad business program, you would think that consulting was the holy grail. They talk about it as if they're already consultants, debating the merits of firms and expressing joy/dismay over the lifestyle. It almost seems like blind devotion to something they probably know very little about. Do anyone else think this? Nothing would make me happier (well, some things), than to be able to say to them, "Look you cocky know-it-alls, this is what consulting's really like:______________________" I need you fill in the blank. And please don't throw out the usual "lotsa travel, lotsa hard work."-type stuff. Work up any frustration you have and spit it at me. I'm dying to know. |

Consulting is really like great and like really kewl because I got into McKinsey and can laugh my classmates who didn't get in and make them feel ashamed. I can enjoy giving expert advise to all my parents' friends and our neighbors even on subjects I have no knowledge about because I'm a professional expert.
or
Consulting sucks because I didn't get into McKinsey and ended up at another firm that is actually a very good firm and gets lots of admiration from its clients, but I really ashamed and can't talk to any of my ex-college friends anymore because they laugh at me because I didn't get into McKinsey which makes me feel self-concious.
