I was wondering if anyone out there could help me figure out what I should do.
I'm getting a PhD in economics from one of the top programs in the country. I am also going to a top-tier strategy firm this fall as an associate. I have decided to ditch my academic ambitions, and seek a career in corporate America.
My questions are: Is several years experience in a top-tier strategy consulting firm enough to give me the credentials and credibility to eventually break into the top management of a Fortune 100 company? Or should I go out and get an MBA after a few years of consulting? Please note that my PhD is not in a technical scientific field.

A couple of years at a top-tier strat firm coupled with a PhD in Econ. is enough to get you anywhere. Hell, some people get to top management with just a bachelor's degree. If a company wouldn't hire you with the above credentials, then they probably wouldn't be worth working for anyway.
