I was wondering if anyone out there could help me figure out what I should do.
I'm getting a PhD in economics from one of the top programs in the country. I am also going to a top-tier strategy firm this fall as an associate. I have decided to ditch my academic ambitions, and seek a career in corporate America.
My questions are: Is several years experience in a top-tier strategy consulting firm enough to give me the credentials and credibility to eventually break into the top management of a Fortune 100 company? Or should I go out and get an MBA after a few years of consulting? Please note that my PhD is not in a technical scientific field.

Your way is great. I decided to join B-School instead of going for a PhD. I'll intern this summer in a top tier consulting company , but I definitely want to go back into academia. The MBA is so pragmatic, it's hard for somebody who is academically minded. Hopefully after 2-3 years (and a little money in the war chest )in consulting..
