I have made two postings to this site as defender of consulting.
But now I have to defender the bashers.
Consulting as an industry has its problems, and the criticisms posted here have a strong element of truth to them. It is healthy for the industry to confront and admit its issues and try to improve itself. The criticism is good, even if I do not agree with the tone,
I wrote my responses as a balance, and one other poster did the same,
I am on your team, but don't bash the bashers, then the site gets silly fast |

I seriously agree with you that, although consulting can be a marvelous industry for the onces that are in, it has a damn bad rep. from the outside.
Fault to my experience is often the fact that, when staying away from implementation the consultant looses control over the outcome (result) of its advice.
As consultant you have limited control over the thing that you are being held accountable for ...fixing the problem.
