Thanks for the advice, I am the original "international".
To follow up on a couple of points - you are saying that it is easier to get an internship/offer from your home country. Well, the case is that I am from a small country in Europe and moved to the UK a couple of years ago. As I said earlier, I will be attending HBS this fall and want to stay in the US after graduation. I have worked in (truly) international roles for two years and as far as I am concerned I don't have a clear "home country" in a professional sense. The question is can I leverage the international experience to my benefit in looking for a job in major strat consulting firms or would they still be more willing to hire Americans and have me apply for a job in my "home country", whichever that might be ? |

Your "home country" can be considered the intersection of the following: (a) Carry a passport or documents allowing you to work without any special paperwork, (b) speak the local language as good as a native, and (c)don't stand out too much (i.e. you can be a Japanese citizen, speak fluent Japanese, but if you don't look Japanese, its going to be an uphill battle...)
Cheers,
Yabai
