For almost two years I worked at a top-notch consulting firm doing work that bordered on theoretical corporate finance and was one of the top junior people there. While there, I passed levels 1 and 2 of the CFA. Deciding I was interested in a career in corporate finance, I switched to an investment bank this summer and now work in what is their top group and probably the top group in the sector. I had to start as a 1st year analyst but now am one of the top junior people and am given 3rd-year analyst/associate responsibilities along with all the regular BS an analyst has to do. The problems: 1) I am intellectually stagnating and find the deal and fee driven culture of my group both unstimulating and disappointing, 2) My group is notorious for long hours (I work 100+ hours a week) and looks down on anyone who takes time off. I have recently come to the realization that 1) and 2) combine to form an environment in which I no longer enjoy working. I would like to involve myself in something related to corporate finance but with more of a strategy/advisory slant. I also want a position in which I'm challenged intellectually. I'm aware McKinsey has a CF&S group but beyond that I'm pretty ignorant of the space. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.
