Thanks a lot for your comments. I will be starting at Mars this summer and I have to admit that the lack of enthusiasm for the firm was starting to make me a little nervous. If I could just ask a couple of questions:
1) When you say cheap, exactly what do you mean?
2) I will be entering as a post-MBA/post-PhD, when you say that the work I will be doing is drudgery for 6 months to a year, what kind of work are we talking about and how does it get better?
Thanks again.

1. sometimes they can get a bit strange with the expenses. I rather not get into details. I think Scott Adams would take notice at a few instances. The expense policy is not that bad, but much worse than any other firm of this caliber.
2) The drudgery can be very boring database number crunching or literally calling up competitor's warehouses and finding out how many trucks come and go every day, day after day, week after week. It really depends. Some get lucky and do not have it as bad.
It gets better because once you pass the test, you will have responsibility on the project and the new new guy will take over the boring stuff.
When I was at Mars, I had less responsibility at my first project (post-MBA/post Phd) than I did at my first job after undergrad, to give you an idea.
