In Reply To: This year was special due to the fact that all of the firms, at the time had more work than they could handle in 2000 and did not know that the dot com craze was going to end. As a result, the number went way up in anticipation of a continuing great economy. The numbers for summer hires came way down and numbers for permanent hires should also come down in the fall. You also have to remember that Harvard and Wharton are core schools for these firms international offices also. Coupled that with larger international student populations and you have larger number of offers for these schools. And yes nearly 15%. It was the first year that more offers were made at Wharton than Harvard. Just watch the moron comments. Most people who make posts here are relatively educated about what they are posting, especially if they are MBA or experienced posts. They do not have time to run around posting BS. Good luck in recruiting.
Message: You made an interesting remark on foreign offices. How does a graduating MBA/summer intern apply for top consulting firms - do they apply to an office location or generally to a company? I am going to HBS this fall (international student)and I was wondering can/should I state a preference in the interview process for a summer intern and if I do does it affect my chances of being accepted. Ie. is it easier to get a job in some offices in the US/internationally or do you get a general accept/ding at the end of the interwievs?
