OK, after lurking on this thread for a while, I have to respond. This anonymous forum is great for pigheaded comments like the one above; you can spout whatever nonsense you like, and see the reactions...
The choice of undergrad college is personal and multifactorial. And guess what... perhaps we don't all know exactly what we want to do for the rest of our lives when we're 17!
I went to Bucknell, went to an Ivy league medical school, practiced at an Ivy league academic medical center, and am now at an elite consulting firm. According to you, I'm a tree-hugging liberal who's fared terribly in my career aspirations because of my poor choice of undergrad college. Boo hoo for me.
Frankly, if you're driven, bright, and want it bad enough, you can succeed from wherever you start, whether it's a state school, small liberal arts college, or Ivy.
Life would be pretty boring if everyone you worked with came from the same place and did all the same things. So grow up and stop the idiotic stereotyping. And by the way, Bucknell IS a pretty conservative place... not exactly the bleeding-heart liberal enclave that you describe. |
