I'm a Harvard law grad (business undergrad) with a year and a half of Silicon Valley corporate law experience, and I am very interested in making the move to management consulting. My prior relevant(?) experience includes 3 years in the Israeli Defense Force and 6 years of low to middle management positons with a service company in New Work. Am I hireable? Where are the jobs now? what kind (if any...) salary can I expect? Any advice as to where to start would be greatly appreciated. |

I am also an attorney, although I just recently graduated from law school. I am already trying to get out of law. Since returning from living in Italy after the Bar I have looked for Management consulting jobs rather than law jobs. Although I have experience in forming a start-up I don't have nearly as much varied experience as you (especially the Israeli armny).
I have found the process difficult for two reasons. First, now is a tough time to move to consulting. Many firms are cutting back and not hiring as aggressively as usual. Second, hiring of inexperienced consultants usually goes through grad schools. However, you did go to Harvard Law and many of these firms do interview at Harvard, even the law school I believe.
The best thing to do is to call the Harvard Law school and Harvard business school career services offices. They should help. SEcondly, you could call the recruitment offices of firms and try to wrangle an interview. I hope this helps (I'm always willing to help another lawyer get out) and if you have any other questions you can post another message or leave your email address and I'll email you.
