In Reply To: Tell your boss that you have a competing offer that you re considering. But first go get a competing offer. Then you will have all the leverage you need ... if you are worthy of a raise in your boss' eyes then you will get one. Or go to a new job (best way to get a big increase).
Message: I know how you feel. I am have less than 2 years experience - class of 1999. I worked in D.C and mad 40,000= 2000 bonus. I started in aug of 99. In Aug of 2000, i only got a 10% raise. and made 44000. I changed jobs and moved to NY. I know make 50,000 +bonus (only will be around 1000-2000$). I was desperate and needed the job in NY- that is another story. I work at a Big five, but not in the consulting dept...so that is why my salary is a little lower. But, is 50000 plus a little bonus to little for NY. I wish I would have gone into the consulting..for the money but my headhunter was an idiot other than the fact that she hooked me up with a big 5. To your point. I see these college grad making 55 and I am like what is this? Castles in the air? Bullshit if you ask me. Plus there is so much down time...they get paid for playing solataire. Don't be afraid to take this matter to HR. Tell HR to keep this matter confidential so your boss does not find out. They will know pricing structures better than anyone in your company. HR probably would feel like fools giving college grads 55 while paying their experienced people less or even equal.
