Okay guys. I went to Bucknell..nationally ranked 25 by (US NEWS...).
TREE HUGGING, MOUNTAIN CLIMBING LIBERALS
I am not talking about the Amhersts
POT SMOKING ALCOHOLICS
, Swathmores, FUTURE PSYCHO MASS MURDERERS
Williams
HARVARD REJECTS
I am talking about schools like Colgate COLUMBIA REJECTS
Bucknell, Vassar SOCIALLT INEPT FREAKS
In one of my Finance classes as a senior at BU, I asked the proffessor (who used to be an exec at Goldman-he attended both Dartmouth and Columbia) what is the real difference between the IVY's and a school like mine? He said that the top 1/3(in intelligence) of the class at any of the 25/30 liberal arts schools can compete with the IVY student without any problems.
DO YOU OFTEN QUOTE YOUR PROFESSORS? DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU LEARN!!
As for getting an education-the liberal arts schools have small classes that are very interactive and the prof knows the name of every student, thus creating an exceptional learning atmosphere...
HAND HOLDING. AT IVY'S YOU'RE ENCOURAGED TO LEARN BY TAKING ON YOUR OWN POINT OF VIEW, THEY ENCOURAGE YOU TO BE INDEPENDENT AND FREE THINKING NOT SIT AROUND SHARE YOUR FEELINGS LIKE YOU'RE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL
How do you get a IB or or top MAN CONS job like Bain, MCK etc, ?
GO TO AN IVY AND GET A GOOD EDUCATION
..hopefully connections got you the summer internship with the firm otherwise it is hard to do it straight up. Regardless of how Corporate America views us, top liberal arts schools produce highly qualified individuals.
SURE, I AGREE.
As for State Schools- don't ever discount UCLA,
PERVERTS
UNC,
DUKE REJECTS
UVA
GUN WIELDING HICKS AND BIMBO PROM QUEENS,
UT, BIGOTS
or MICH. WANNABE IVY LEAGUERS WHO THINK THEY ARE ATHLETIC. MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE TOO COLD TO THINK
They produce talented individuals- ones that can easily compete with the IVY's.
NOT SO SURE ABOUT THAT
Don't assume a student at Princeton is smarter than the one from UCLA.
ASSUME, ASSUME!!!
What if the student chose UCLA becuase his parents could not afford Princeton (or schools like Amherst), wanted greater diversity in college , preffered the location or all of the above?
THEN HE WAS STUPID, I WENT TO IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL 100% THROUGH LOANS AND WORKING THREE JOBS, DON;T TELL ME IT'S NOT POSSIBLE. BECAUSE I KNOW IT IS, THESE ARE EXCUSES
Also many these states schools have "Honors Programs" that have individuals just as smart as the IVY's if not smarter.
HONORS? SO IT'S LIKE, HONORS REMEDIAL?
PENN STATE
WISH THEY WERE UPENN
All in all, if you want to succeed you need strong work ethic, intelligence, and people skills. A combination of these three will get you far regardless of which three institution you attended
WHAT SCHOOL YOU ATTEND TOTALLY HAS A BEARING ON HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL BE, IT'S NOT ONLY IN THE NAME, BUT THE KIND OF EDUCAITON YOU HAD THERE. AT IVY'S YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE FIERCELY INDEPENDENT AND STRONG-MINDED. IT'S SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST. BUT IT IS ALSO A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN EXPLORE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING AND SUCCEED BC THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE THERE UNDERSTAND SOONER OR LATER THAT THEY HAVE BEEN GRACED WITH AN UNBELIEVABLE OPPORTUNITY.

I can't stand arguments that the Ivy League is reserved for rich kids. I am steeped in debt and have a very loaded financial aid package and attend an Ivy.
I sincerely believe the Ivy League simply attracts the best of the best. Period. It is populated with the most diverse, unique, brilliant people, regardless of social or racial class.
It is understandable that other students want to knock down the Ivy League students. It is always natural to topple the guy at the top.
But it is useless to turn feelings of envy into malicious postings on a meaningless career message board.
What is sad is that a website like the Vault finally shows to the rest (not the best) what great opportunities there are for those who've tried (or those who were naturally brilliant).
Your misgivings should not be targeted at Ivy League students. We are all not competing with you to get into management consulting.
Many of us are going to top law schools, many of us plan to change the world in many unmeasureable small steps - many of us plan to impact people around us in a fashion beyond your simple inferiority complex driven whining.
What drives someone to go to any mediocre liberal arts or national school and pay equivalent tuition when the education they can receive from their state schools is equally as good and much cheaper?
I think this is a much better question to be asking. Why pay so much money to go, for example, Boston College, when, if you are from Illinois, California, New York, Virginia, Mass., etc. you can attend your state school for much cheaper?
