Just wanted to express my appreciative thanks to those authors (X-FACTOR, KAS and ANOTHER-PHD on this Management-Consulting message-board; ATTEMPTED-HELP and
EX-MCKINSEYITE on the McK message-board) who took the time to respond to my two questions posted earlier under the PLEASE HELP title concerning the issues of AGE (and/or PhD+MBA) and Exec-MBA versus regular 2-YR MBA. I found your info and opinions valuable and it helped
me to better clarify my own plans. Was a little surprised to get a complete silence and zero response from those purported insiders (Chicago-Partner; McK-Insider etc.) whom I presumed were actually current McKinsey consultants; still, on the internet, it is anyone?s guess who is really behind that keyboard.
To give you my own perspective on the questions, in agreement with ANOTHER-PHD and unlike EX-MCKINSEYITE, I suspect that age might likely to be an issue (see their earlier posts and mine for details) in being hired; this is just my pragmatic view. I am happy to hear from ATTEMPTED-HELP and EX-MCKINSEYITE that there is value (or at least perceived value) in the PhD+MBA combination since I am committed to that route (I believe it will be critical for my professional and career growth irrespective of whether McK is in my future). However, I am still unclear re the McK position on Exec-MBA versus regular-MBA since the info provided by others did not significantly answer this point. While the obvious benefits of the full-time 2yr program are significant (more time for study, greater contacts/networking with class-mates etc.), I am still not sure these would out-weigh the costs, particularly for someone who is much past 25 years old. In fact, I am applying to both programs right now so I will have to make a final decision on this sometime soon.
Wish me luck, and thanks once again.
