In Reply To: Hello, I have a problem. I am in my sophmore year at a city college and have to choose what university I am going to transfer to soon. I work full time and have good grades but I also work full time. My problem is I think and feel if I do not go to a top tier university that I won't get a good job, I want to get in to business consulting and strategy. I also do not have a lot of money, hense city college, but am willing to take out a loan. If any one out there has any insight please reply. Thanks.
Message: you need to do whatever you can to get into a prestigous school. i had a friend that transfered from sandiego state (he had a 3.9) to sfstate. he could have gone to cal berkeley but would have had to take an extra semester or two to graduate. i told him to go to cal but he didnt listen. he worked his ass off and got into an okay position but it should have been a lot easier. he regrets not taking the better school. when you go to a 4 year, that is how you will be judged. it is assumed that you are at a superior school because you were not smart enough/work hard enough to get into a better school. if you need to boost grades, quit your job and take loans. i am 20K in debt but I got into a top consulting firm recently. it will pay off. these firms look at grades more than they should as well. also private schools will offer more financial aid so keep that in mind.
