I currently work for a well-regarded boutique strategy consulting firm, and though I've had a fantastic experience, I cannot say the same for all of the people that started with me.
You stand to gain much from working at a top-tier firm for a couple of years before making a jump to a boutique firm. The "pedigree" that you will earn at the top tier firm will be with you for the rest of your career, along with the contacts you make there.
