Hello,
I am getting my phd in molecular biology from a school with top tier graduate and business programs. Since I don't have a business degree or relevant business experience, is it likely that I will be competitive for an associate position? I realize that different firms may have different philosophies, but is anyone willing to give me some feedback or advice about which firms I should seriously consider? so far I'm most interested
in strategy consulting, and I've heard that both Marakon and Kearney hire phd's and offer he same compensation as MBA's.
Thank you for your feedback |

Yes, you'll have a good shot, though I don't know if Marakon is a good company for you since they're pretty much just HBS and Wharton dominated. ATK is a good option. McKinsey is a fantastic option for you. We hire tons of PhDs. I worked with a material sciences PhD (bonding agents dissertation) from CalTech. I also worked with a EE PhD from MIT. You need to do two things: 1. show good communication skills and 2. demonstrate business common sense. Intellectually, the Firm knows you have the equipment, but you need to show thta you have the common sense to get real traction.
