I just started my first year of residency in NYC. I've come to the conclusion that I need to get out of medicine. Can anyone give me advice on how I can get into consulting? May be investment banking. Just anything that gets me out of doing rectal exams. |

First, you need to figure out what you hate about medicine. I assume you realize that it's more than rectal exams. I've been in practice (in internal medicine) for 7 years, and am interviewing for consulting positions, so obviously I'm ready to get out. However, make sure that the reason that you don't want to practice medicine has more to do with career issues than an awful surgical internship!
