In Reply To: DO some firms like to hire non-MBA candidates, specifically, engineers, more than others? Who are they? I have a chem engineering degree from Berkeley (MS) and UPenn (BS) (with good GPAs) and I would like to target them. Thanks!
Message: Yes, the Big 5 definitely recruit engineers, given that much of their work is tech related - and you don't necessarily need to have tech work related to IT - just demonstrate that you're a quick learner. I know of several engineering MS'ers who got offers at Accenture. In addition to the IT firms, the strategy firms like engineers too - as long as you can demonstrate that you're not the "stereotypical" engineer. I'm getting my BS in mechanical engineering from a school NOT as prestigious as Berkeley or UPenn, and was able to land interviews last semester with McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and A.T. Kearney. So definitely the interest is there, but those firms are MUCH more selective than the Big 5. Kearney is especially attracted to engineers, given thir heavy operations focus. If you're going for one of the strategy firms, you might as well apply to ALL of them, because they are SO competitive that you'd be foolish to be selective about only considering one or two of them. Good luck!
