My impression is that Bain doesn't really use non-business Ph.D.'s.

I am a PhD student in Physics. I tried to contact Bain repeatedly last year, way before their MBA hiring was over. I never got a reply from them. In mid-December I received a letter from their recruiter saying that they would be interested in me and I should apply next year. This was rather rude, but on the other hand, I understand that HR is probably swamped with work, and it's clear they do not target PhD's as McKinsey and BCG do.
