I am a former business analyst of a Big-5 strategy consulting group. I left to join a former collegue of mine to start a dot-com. As our funding as run out I am currently looking for a new position. I am very interested in VC work and several people in the industry have indicated to me that I am very qualified for an analyst position. In addition to my strategy consulting and dot-com operating experience I have a strong technical academic background (I finished first in my class with a EE/CS degree from Duke) that early-stage VC's are looking for. But from talking to people in the industry it seems like a lot of firms have put a hold on hiring and there simply aren't enough positions to go around.
As I am living on savings I need to take a position soon, but I don't want to be forced into taking something that isn't a step forward. It would be my third job in a year and a half and I am wary of changing jobs again.
I would like to find some temporary work to pay the bills until I can find a good full-time position. But in looking at contract work for someone with strategy skills, all the positions I have seen have been for people with MBAs. All other consulting contract work I have seen has been for people with technical experience.
Any ideas as to where I could find contract work using my strategy consulting experience or dot-com experience in NYC?
