In Reply To: I agree with you on all counts except I would state that there is no such thing as strategy work in the public sector. The word strategy presupposes competition, which does not exist in the public sector. Thus, everything is a question of process and efficiency where the public sector is concerned. Sorry to split hairs, but no one that I've spoken to in the Washington DC area thinks of Booz as a strategy firm, but more so as a process/systems integration contractor for the federal gov't, with competitors such as SAIC. Outside metro DC of course is a different issue.
Message: I see your general point but you're being far to extremist in your opinion that there is no such thing as strategy work in the public sector. The federal agencies that Booz often consults are definitely *competing* for dollars from Congress. Many of the programs or offices within those agencies are certainly *competing* for their existence on an annual basis, especially in several Department of Defense agencies who actually sell goods to the private sector. So while your are correct that government work tends to favor discussion of process and efficiency, you're going a little too far to say that that it is exclusive of strategy considerations. Firms like SAIC are competitors to Booz when it comes to operations and systems, but when it comes to strategy work in the public sector SAIC, as well as every other consulting firm, can't hold a candle to Booz.
