Thanks for making an exception to posting to give your advice. However, hearing you say you recommend I finish my residency obviously startles me. If I am SURE I don't want to practice clinical medicine, for as much as can try to gather what it will be like when I'm finally through with the pain of a surgical residency (avg. 110-130 hours/week, little pay, tons of loans, little respect, male driven hierarchy, lack of options for family - I'm female) why should I invest what will be at least four more years given the circumstances I'm in and the surgical residency parameters, just to finish and do nothing with it? To be in management consulting, or in the field you're in for that matter, doesn't seem to necessitate my finishing. In fact, I would think being in my mid-thirties by the time I DID finish and then trying to get out would be a liability.
Obviously, I'm seeking the answer I want to hear. But I just thought I'd through this out there. |

Dear 'Good point but',
I'd be interested to hear how you've got on-- and, judging from the string of messages, a lot of other people would be interested too.
thanks!
