In Reply To: I have just recieved an offer to work for Goldman Sachs (NAPA) and an offer to work for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (Consultant). The Goldman Sachs offer pays more money, but I would like to know what are your views on the investment industry vs. consulting and which do you think is a better place to work as a recent graduate. Also, which is a better company to work for, GS or CGEY?
Message: NAPA is a tech position, right? I don't know offhand what the "P" stands for. That's a tough call. GS almost definitely has the better name on the resume. As you mentioned, it's more money. If you prefer to be around finance, the choice is obvious. And if you prefer to avoid travel, that's another plus for GS. OTOH, there's a plus for CGEY that I would definitely not overlook. At CGEY, tech people are the predominant value-added source at the company. At GS, you may be really good at what you do, but you're not an IBanker. Does that matter? I don't know, but I'd certainly give it a lot of thought, thinking about how an individual is viewed by the company as a whole. Also, CGEY would likely have a wider variety of projects to work on, and therefor probably a better learning curve. But then you should have a good feel for the work at either place by now anyway, right? Did you have a feel for the coworkers at either place or the culture of the two companies? As I'm sure you knew, they have different strengths and weaknesses, and you just have to decide what's more important and what your career goals are.
