In Reply To: Hello, I have a problem. I am in my sophmore year at a city college and have to choose what university I am going to transfer to soon. I work full time and have good grades but I also work full time. My problem is I think and feel if I do not go to a top tier university that I won't get a good job, I want to get in to business consulting and strategy. I also do not have a lot of money, hense city college, but am willing to take out a loan. If any one out there has any insight please reply. Thanks.
Message: Contrary to popular opinion, getting a job as a consultant out of university is not the only way to achieve success. The short answer is: pick a good school based on what you are interested in, work hard, and get a job after college that interests you and pays the bills. If after 5 years you are still interested in being a consultant, try business school. Or, if after 10 years you are still interested, try applying directly. Seriously, consulting isn't something that you should change your life just to have a chance to do... that status should be reserved for things like missionary work or yachting around the world, IMHO.
