Although I have only been "fortunate" to work for a Big 5 company for a year, I too will attest that they are highly overrated. The work is a joke. Any idiot can peform it. Performance reviews are beuracratic and assinine. Intelligence is frowned upon. Yes men are promoted. Salary increases and bonuses have been replaced with lies, er promises, about an impending IPO and thus the need to make the financials look good by screwing everyone over. I am very fortunate that one of my project managers had the good sense to leave the company and write me a strong letter of recommendation. I will soon be off to a top 10 MBA program, no thanks to any aspect of my involvement with KPMG. I dream of the day when KPMG is bought out at $4 a share, the 8% of the useful employees are held onto for their client relations, and the rest are fired.
