In Reply To: I will be graduating from a small liberal arts college in Southern Maryland this May and I am finding that I am getting passed over by every conulting firm I have applied to (Booz,PWC, KPMG, AMS, McKinsey, etc.). I find this highly frustrating for several reasons. First, although my school is relatively unknown, it is a strong one (it is chosen as one of the top ten "best buy" schools in the country every year by Money magazine). Second, I have a solid GPA (3.6); strong GRE scores(93rd percentile on the Verbal section and 85th percentile on the Quantitative); strong GMAT scores (91st percentile on the Verbal, 81st on Quantitative, 93rd overall). Third, I am President of my school's Economics honors society, a member of its Political Science honors society, and I have a part-time job. Fourth, putting all modesty aside, I am a gifted writer. One Philosophy professor told me that my writing is "extraordinary for an undergraduate." This may sound like a desperate plea, but is there anyone out there who would be willing to look at my resume and a writing sample and maybe pass it along to a recruiter with a recommendation? I think that this field has everything I need to inspire me and make me enjoy getting up in the morning and going to work. I would hate to see this dream pass me by just because I couldn't afford a $130,000 education.
Message: It sounds to me as though you are very bright and gifted. I know that you may not want to spend the $ on additional schooling right now, but you may want to just apply to graduate school. With your background you could have a chance at an ivy league. Maybe you could look into scholarships, etc. to cut down costs. If you don't get into schools of your choice this way, you could start with a school that would give you a chance at transferring to that school after a semester or two. Please take into account that I am NOT a career adviser or MBA student. Good Luck ;)
